I'm sorry that I won't be teaching you tomorrow, November 24th. It's Thanksgiving Day for us Americans. I will be around the university for a short spell, but I will not be conducting your two lessons. I hope that you enjoy your lessons with your other fabulous teachers. They really are great. I look forward to catching up with you next month (December 1st) for our next lesson.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

My friend Molly is planning to do an empowerment seminar next month and she would like some help. It will be in Kozova and she would like Ukrainian students to help translate from English and Ukrainian. Let me know if this sounds interesting to you. I don't know the date yet but will let you know as soon as possible.

I put up participation grading on the semester one page. I hope you take a look at it so you will understand how you will be graded. I'm excited to get going on our assignments and lessons. The first assignment will be started in class this week and will be due next lesson. I'll e

I had my first lesson with third course students today. It was pretty rad. We went over basics of my expectations and planned some interesting topics to discuss in the next four weeks. I'm really excited to meet all of you and will do my best to learn your names as quickly as possible.

Not all of group 33.2 showed up to our first lesson so I thought I might as well share with you some of my expectations for our lessons together.

Class Expectations:
  • Do your best.
  • Turn off and do not touch your cell phones during class.
  • Do your assignments and turn them in ON TIME.
  • Participate in class. (And show up to every lesson.)
  • Have fun.
  • Leave your awesome Ukrainian language skills AT THE DOOR.

I look forward to a great set of lessons with you guys. Please send me a message via the contact form on this website if you have any questions or concerns.

See you soon.

In case you didn't know, I am one of the leaders of the TOEFL Test Taker's Club at the Window on America Center at the central Ternopil library. Each Wednesday, I introduce or review nine new vocabulary words. If you want to take any of the standardized tests to study in the USA, you must have a rather extensive vocabulary.

This week (November 16th) we had these nine words: disapproval, disruptive, haphazardly, ideal, persistent, wide, frail, refine, and worthwhile.

If you're interested in learning them, please do.

The words from last week (November 9th) are: abroad, attractive, adverse, advice, acclaim, abrupt, autonomous, acceptable, and actually. You might know these words already. If you don't know them, add them to your daily w

I will be your teacher for the second semester. However, I will not be your teacher anymore (after tomorrow) in 2011. So, I won't REALLY see you until next year... unless you miss me and decide to come to English Club at TNPU or one of the two English Clubs at the WOA Center in the library.

Also, I really enjoyed working with all of you this semester. If you got a low mark in my class, that doesn't mean that I don't like you. That likely means that you didn't turn in the work I assigned. I tried to be very open and up front with you about assignments, deadlines, and expectations. Each of you signed the Agreement when you started class so you should have known that attendance is mandatory and that assignments were supposed to be turned in on time.

I hope that those of you who were concerned about your grades have worked on your extra-credit assignments. I will be accepting them until one tomorrow and then "I'm sorry Charlie." After one, I will be rushing to finalize grades and won't take any more assignments.

I hope you all have a great Friday and that you are safe and responsible as you celebrate the end of the first semester.

I had my last lessons with 44.1 and 42.3 today. It was sad to see you go. We won't have class again until next year. 2012 is bound to be amazing and I hope we all have a lot of fun finishing up the year together. In the mean time, good luck. I hope all of you enjoy your time student teaching. It's going to be tough and occasionally stressful, but if you make it fun for you, it will be great.

I'm excited for my last lessons with 42.2 and 42.1 Thursday and Friday.

Have a great rest of the week.
